Term 1, Week 10

Room 4 Newsletter:  Term 1, Week 10

Sunday 3rd April, 2016

All the best to Room 6 for their trip to Stewart Island, and to Room 5 who also leave for their camp during this week.

Important dates coming up:
*11th-12th April: Scripture Eisteddfod presentations for Year 3 and 4 to be held in Room 4 on Monday and Tuesday of Week 11.
*Thursday 14th April – Eisteddfod Assembly 1.30 pm. Choir and Kapa haka will also present items at this assembly.
*Friday 15th April – Last day of Term 1.

Eisteddfod Update: Scripture Reading:
Students have begun practicing their introductions and scripture in class time. Everyone has been offered a scripture if they do not wish to find one of their own. Please let me know early this week if there are any issues with your child’s choice, or with their preparation for eisteddfods.

Poi-making:
We had a fun afternoon on Friday making poi with Room 3. This is so we can add a poi song/dance to our repertoire of waiata. The children made a great start on their poi. They practised the skills of tying knots, plaiting, and generally following quite tricky instructions. Thank you Mrs Beilby for providing the materials and leading the way.

Flag-banner for Frans:
Thank you to Mrs Battrick for providing us with the materials to make a flag banner for Frans. We have completed the flags, and Mrs Battrick will now sew them together to make a wall-hanging, which we will send to Frans. The children have continued to take turns entertaining George throughout the day at school and in the weekends. We have updated Frans’ google doc with regular photos and stories, and it was cool to receive a photo and message from Frans last week. We wish Frans all the best for his continued care and recovery.

Inquiry/Garden Project:
The next step in our Garden Project is to take a closer look at what happens to food between when it is grown, and when it gets to our table. How natural are the foods we eat? What ingredients are added to food in order for them to be canned or packaged? Where do some of our most common foods come from? What are the most widely grown crops around the world?

Have a great week.

Regards, Markelle Ward J
