Sunday 29th May, 2016.

THANK YOU
Thank you to all those who shared in our School Mass this morning and a special thank you to the children doing readings, prayers of the faithful, and choir. It was lovely to have feedback from a number of parishioners who really enjoyed the mass
and songs. Thank you also to those who brought morning tea and food bank items.

Important dates coming up:

*Queen’s Birthday Weekend: School closed Monday 6th June.

Oral Language:
A reminder that this week we will begin oral language presentations in Room 4. These will take place each Friday morning. Please let me know if you need any resources for your presentation.

Lost property:
There are many concerns about jerseys and fleeces going missing on a daily basis. Any clothing mislaid in or around Room 4 is kept in a green container by our sink bench and the children know to look there. Please encourage your child to keep everything that they are not wearing in their school bag on the outside hooks. Also please discourage stocking feet on the wet grass, as the socks stay wet and cold all day. Brrrrr!

Camp Dates:
Mrs Beilby and I can confirm that the dates for this year’s
Year 3 & 4 camp to Dunedin are
Wednesday 7th till Friday 9th September, 2016.

More on this later.

Oral Language Opportunity:
This week we will begin preparation for individual oral language presentations in Room 4. These will take place each Friday morning, according to the roster below. While there will be time given in class to support this task, some aspects of it need to be done at home, for example finding an appropriate news report in a newspaper, or practising a poem, report or song.
We will rotate the tasks once everyone has completed the first round of presentations.
The purpose is to build confidence when presenting or speaking in front of the class. Each presentation will be followed with an opportunity for others to ask questions and give feedback.

Be prepared to answer questions about your article.

Present a song, dance, gymnastics display …. Anything that showcases a special talent                you have!
Introduce it first and tell us why you chose to do this.
Be prepared for feedback and to answer questions about your presentation.

Puppet show:
Work with your partner to prepare a short role-play, to be presented  in the form of                        a puppet show.
We have some puppets already, but you may want to make some stick-puppets to fit your theme.
Ask Mrs Ward for some time in class to plan this.

Have a great week.

Term 2, Week 3

Room 4 Newsletter:  Term 2, Week 3

Sunday 15th May, 2016

Thank you to those who were able to make it to Room 4’s assembly on Friday. I was very proud of the children as there can be quite a bit to organise and present. Our poi dance is coming along very well, and we will team up with Room 3 to continue practising this and many other waiata. By the time we go to the marae next term we will be pro!

Important dates coming up:
*Monday 16th May – Teacher Only Day.
*Tuesday 17th May – Room 4 Swimming 11.15 am.
*Thursday 19th May – Room 4 Swimming 10 am. Mrs Ward in Dunedin for the annual Bishops Forum.
*Friday 20th May – Mrs Ward at First Aid Course. Pink Shirt Day.
*Sunday 29th May, 9 am, Whole School Mass (End of Week 4).

Pink Shirt Day:
Pink Shirt Day has been well advertised in our school and the message is extremely important. We are doing a unit in Room 4 which re-visits how ‘Respect for Self and Others’ looks and sounds inside and outside our classroom. This fits well with the Holy Spirit Strand in R.E. where we try to practice the fruits of the spirit: kindness, joy, patience, gentleness, self-control, love, peace, faithfulness and goodness. Please support Pink Shirt Day on Friday 20th May by encouraging your child to wear some items of pink to school.

Room 4, St. Gerard’s

Respect for myself and others

Looks like/Sounds like:
·      I will keep my hands and feet to myself
·      I will be kind
·      I will use polite language
·      I will speak up when I am hurt or sad
·      I will speak up when others are hurt or sad
·      I will ask before I use or borrow someone’s things
