Week 5, Term 2

Hi everyone,

I hope those who went to the School Disco on Friday had lots of fun.

Swimming
This is the final week for swimming.  On Tuesday remember to bring your PJ's for the learning activity.  PJ's need to be long sleeved but not tight fitting, togs are worn underneath.

Internet Use Permission Form
In Week 3, I sent home an Internet Use Form.  These need to be read, signed and returned to school.  I can print more out if yours has been misplaced.
Once these are returned those in Year 5, will be able to Bring a Device to school, BYOD is not a must, we do have ipads and laptops in our classroom.

Rice Day Photos

Week 3 Pt B :D

In class tomorrow, Room 4 will be looking at the St Gerard's Internet Safety Contract.  This contract will come home with each child and needs to be discussed and signed by both child and parent.
This is a good chance to have a discussion around internet safety, I have attached some safety tips from the Netsafe website.

Also, Wednesday we are having a whole school Netball Tournament at Alexandra Courts.  We will walk down there with our bags and children can be picked up from the Netball courts at the end of the tournament.  Children are asked to try wear their house colours to school on this day.

The Rice Day was a big success today, thank you Loretta and Kate Donaldson for coming in to cook the rice and to those who lent us the rice cookers! If all money could be in by next week.

Week 3, Term 2

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mum's in our class! You all do an awesome job and I hope you all felt the love from your kids today.

The children had a wonderful experience on Friday taking the horse drawn wagon down to the river near the Shaky Bridge. Terry from the Heritage Trust then showed the children how to pan for gold and everyone gave it a go! Thank you to all our volunteers who came and helped on the trip, we really appreciate your help.

This week we have swimming on Tuesday and Thursday and Netball on Monday and Wednesday so sports uniform can be worn.

Tomorrow is also the Caritas Challenge which is a 'Rice Day'. So the children will eat rice for lunch. Please bring a spoon and bowl along to school for this. I hope everyone received the letter about this which was sent home on Tuesday!

Have a great week!

Pink Shirt day

     Pink Shirt Day

On Thursday 17th of May The Sticks n Stones Ambassadors here at St Gerard’s
Primary will be having a Pink Shirt Day, this coincides with NZ Bully Free Week.
Pink Shirt Day is to show our support and stand up to bullying .
It would be awesome if you could dress up in pink to show your support.
There will be Best Dressed prizes for each class and an Overall Winner.
If you would like you can bring a gold coin donation.
The money will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation and Sticks n Stones
to help run programmes here at school.

There will also be a baking competition - we would like this to be student prepared
(as much as possible). The three different categories will be for the pinkest, best
tasting and best presentation.

Friday 11th May

6 May 2018

As an exciting hands on experience to kick start Room 3 and 4’s inquiry “Gold Fever” we have been offered this programme through the Otago
Goldfields Heritage Trust. We are awaiting confirmation of the exact time for this from the organisers, but will need the assistance of parents
please. You will be notified of the time as soon as we have this. As supervision will need to be of the school participants, this is not a trip where
we could include pre-schoolers.

Students need to wear school sports uniform and bring gumboots.

Thank you to Mrs Vanessa Breen, Mrs Lanham and Mrs Cuthbertson who have offered assistance with this trip. Parents will be given small
groups to supervise, as they ride on the wagon and mine for the illusive gold near the river.

Please email your child’s teacher if you are able to help.

Looking forward to this exciting experience.

Week 10, Term 2

Wow, we are at the end of the Term! I have loved teaching the children in Room 4 for the last two terms and I look forward to my last week...
