Week 9 Term 3

Thank you to all those who were able to join us for
Friday’s assembly led by Room 4.
Important dates coming up:

note that these will start with Family photos at 8.30 am.

Listening Comprehension. Year 3’s – Listening Comprehension. A piece of writing (Persuasive Language) will
also be assessed this week.
*Social
Justice Week:
This week is Social Justice Week. In Room 4 we will
acknowledge this by going without heaters in the classroom for the week. Children
may wear jackets in class. We will also be investigating how the Food Bank
system works in Alexandra as part of our Social Science and Caritas Programme.
The Food Bank is currently running low in long-life milk, margarine and sugar.
Your support would be greatly appreciated.
*Sacramental
Programme:
A reminder that the Parent night for Confirmation
will take place this Thursday evening 17th September, 7 pm, at
Father Pats. The Sacrament of Confirmation is coming up fast on Tuesday 22nd
September at 6 pm. Please ensure that the children are comfortable with their
choice of Saint’s name. Thank you for your attendance at Sunday liturgies – it
was lovely to have just about everyone there at Church this morning.

SKI CAMP
Wow!! Your children were
amazing at camp. There we were, facing the blizzard, sliding on our skis, freezing
conditions ….. and they just kept going and going. No complaining, total
commitment, a huge adventure! Thank you so much to all the camp parents
including John, Aaron, and Lindsay. It took every bit of all of our time and
energy to keep everything going smoothly … there was no time for sitting round
drinking cups of tea! A big thank you to Sam, Haines, Ben, Vaughan, Camille,
Tracy, Maria, Helen, Mark and Rob. A special thank you to Miss Passmore for
giving up her own class for two days to join us. Everyone worked very hard and
it was certainly a team effort. We could not have done it without each and
every adult – well done.
Upcoming dates:
*Monday 7th
September – Maths Professional Development for Staff. Room 4 will have a
reliever from 9–11 am and again from 1-3 pm.
*Wednesday afternoon – House
Activities: Whole school.
*Friday Mass – 12 noon.
*Friday Assembly – 2.10 pm
– led by Room 4.
*Speech Eisteddfods: 22nd-23rd
September.
*Sacrament of Confirmation
– Tuesday evening, 22nd September.
*Eisteddfod Assembly:
Thursday afternoon 24th September.
Assembly:
This Friday our school
assembly will be led by Room 4. We will share an iMovie that I am putting
together with all the photos and video we took at camp. If any parents still have
photos they would like to contribute to this, please get them to me asap as it
takes a bit of time to sort. We will also share some writing and songs. You are
most welcome to join us if possible.
PAT Tests:
We will be completing PAT
tests in class next week (Week 9). This will involve Maths, Reading
Comprehension, Reading Vocabulary, and Listening Comprehension for the Year
4’s, and Listening Comprehension for the Year 3’s. Access to this data will be through regular school reports.
Confirmation:
The children on the
Sacramental Programme are currently choosing a Saints name for Confirmation.
You can support them by researching the saint or name they are interested in
and making sure they have some connection with their saint. We will also
discuss options for this in class and at Sunday liturgy. I am also organising Prayer
partner cards with parishioners.
Speech Eisteddfods:
The criteria for Speech
Eisteddfods will come home in homework clear files for Room 4, and in bags for
Room 3. Please support your child in the preparation and practise of their
eisteddfods as the last three weeks of term will be very busy. The sooner the
speech is ready, the more practise time I can make available in class. Some are
very keen and well under way already.
Regards, Markelle Ward J
