Room 4 Newsletter: Term 3, Week 5
Sunday 16th August 2015
Upcoming dates:
*School Mass for Term 3: Sunday
30th August, 9 am.
*Year 3 and 4 Ski Camp:
Tuesday 1st – Wednesday 2nd September.
*Sacrament of Confirmation
– Tuesday evening, 22nd September.
Sacramental Programme:
Thank you to those who
were able to get to the Parent meeting at Father Pat’s on Thursday evening, and
what a wonderful turnout for Children’s Liturgy at Mass this morning. We
have sent the childrens’ letter of invitation away to Bishop Colin for him to
confirm them on the 22nd September. The quiz question for the week
is ‘What is the name of the Bishop’s special hat he wears for the Sacrament of
Confirmation?’
Craft:
We are under way with making
washable material sandwich/chip bags or wraps, one of our recycling projects.
Our goal is to make enough of these to sell ‘heaps’ at the school fair later in
the year. Thank you to Deirdre Jolly and Mary Blyth who are joining us most
Thursday afternoons to do the sewing. The children have started bringing material
in and we are putting it to very good use.
Ski Camp 1st –
2nd September:
There will be a camp
meeting for those attending camp and for any parents who have questions or
concerns about the ski trip. At this stage I will pencil in next
Monday 24th August at 7 pm in Room 4. If this changes I will let
you know directly.
There is a lot happening
in the school so please contact me early if there are things you
are needing to know about the ski trip. J
Some useful information regarding the
Snow Farm:
1. Accommodation
We will be staying in Snow Farm Lodge’s standard
rooms which are ideally set up for schools with a friendly atmosphere, good
food and a multitude of activities. Standard rooms are located on the ground
floor and have shared facilities. Catering is provided and all meals are
prepared in a certified commercial Kitchen. The Lodge has certified drinking
water taken from fresh alpine springs.
2. Safety
At the Snow Farm, safety is of primary concern. They operate with a
small instructor-student ratio of 1:10 and instructors select appropriate
terrain for studentʼs ability levels. Most of the trip will be spent in the
main basin which contains just over 7km of trail, all visible from the lodge
facilities. The Snow Farm has trained first aid staff, and instructors also
receive basic first aid training. There is a qualified paramedic on site 24/7.
Publishing:
The children have
completed their Information Reports on ‘Our School’s Organic Garden’. Their
draft reports will be coming home in their homework clear files this week for
them to publish. They can do this for homework over the next week or ten days.
Please email it in to me when it is finished so we can illustrate and display
their wonderful work as soon as possible. You will notice a big step up in the
planning, vocabulary and editing of their writing. Awesome!
Have a great week.
Regards, Markelle Ward J
