Term 3, Week 3

Room 4 Newsletter:  Term 3, Week 3

Sunday 2nd August

Thank you to all Year 4 parents for attending Parent Interviews last week. It was great to follow up on reports and discuss the ‘next steps’ for your child. Many of these are well underway already.

Upcoming dates:
*Monday 3rd – Thursday 6th August: ERO (Education Review) Team visiting our School.
*Thursday 6th August – Deirdre and Mary are joining us again for craft creations (afternoon).
*Wednesday 12th August (afternoon) – School Cross Country.
*School Mass for Term 3: Sunday 30th August, 9 am.
*Year 3 and 4 Ski Camp: Tuesday 1st – Wednesday 2nd September.

Big Idea
The children are very engaged already with this term’s Big Idea: We are learning to make a difference in the world by reusing, reducing and recycling. They are quick to show all the ways they already help the environment especially recycling paper, card and plastics into new toys! Some have taken the initiative with making stuffed toys out of socks, so be warned they will be on the lookout for these at home. Rule Number 1 for all our art and craft is that nothing should be bought new – only used ‘stuff’ for recycling please.

We had a wonderful session with Sue Brydges on Wednesday 22nd July to get us started with observing and recording what has happened so far in our School Garden. It was fascinating seeing how carefully all the soil is layered up with manure, liquid (fertilised with seaweed), coffee grinds, pea straw, grass, and so on. We are linking this to science and the children also did some very cool drawings of the compost heap!

Ski Camp
From Week 4 onwards we will be beginning preparation for our Year 3 and 4 Ski Camp. This will ensure that you have a detailed clothing list well in advance, and we will also be looking at some basic first aid. Thank you Shannon and Lauren for already sharing your St. John’s skills with us, and Hannah who also managed to bring a dummy along to practise CPR.

Cross-Country Training
We will join Room 3 on Monday 10th August in the afternoon to do a practice-run of the Cross Country track (Week 4). Room 4 children can wear tracksuit/PE gear from Monday till Wednesday of that week because of the Cross Country. In the meantime they can change into shorts for fitness time if they choose.

Have a great week.

Regards, Markelle Ward   J
