Room 4 Newsletter: Term 3, Week 1
Sunday 19th July, 2015
Welcome back for another term of fun and learning in Room 4.
I trust that you all kept comfortable and warm over the holidays with plenty of
relaxing activities with your families.
Year 3 & 4 Camp:
I now have all the information I need to sort out costings
and arrangements for our Year 3 & 4 camp. To share this information with
you, there will be short meeting in Room 4 at
7 pm this Thursday evening. The dates for the camp are
Tuesday 1st September, leaving early in the day by bus for the Snow
Farm, sleeping over at the Lodge that night, then home again by bus next day,
Wednesday 2nd September. Following Thursday night’s meeting I will
get all relevant information out to families with costings confirmed. For those
who have been to the Snow Farm before, you will know what to expect, but this
is a first for me. The programme looks very exciting and meals are catered, so
it should be fun and easy (except for the skiing bit!)
Upcoming dates:
*Thursday 23rd July, 7 pm,
Parent Evening regarding Year 3 & 4 Camp.
*Week
2: Book Week 27th–31st July.
*28th-29th
July: Year 4-8 Parent Interviews - Tuesday and Wednesday 3.15-5 pm. If you
haven’t booked already please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz,
enter the code FJVGF, and choose a time and day that suits you.
*Wednesday

Homework:
This term homework will include reading
comprehension, maths and a spelling sheet coming home each week. This will be
marked in class each Friday, so please support your child to be consistent with
the organisation and completion of homework tasks. I continue to welcome your
feedback to ensure that the level and number of tasks is right for them.
Big Idea for Term 3:
The Big Idea for our whole school for this
term is ‘As an Enviro School we are learning to make a difference in the world
by recycling, reducing and reusing’. In Room 4 we will be investigating and
practising this in many ways right across the curriculum. This will include
observing and recording progress with our school garden (Science), making
crafts and bags out of recycled paper (Art/Technology), making connections
between texts and the concept of sustainability (Reading), and exploring ways we
can look after God’s creation (RE). As part of our Inquiry the children have
already started asking some very big questions, and I am looking forward to
seeing where this will take us. Watch this space.
Regards, Markelle Ward J
