Term 3 Week 3

Sunday 3rd August

Wow – can you believe there is now less than a month till we go to camp? I will continue to include all up-to-date information in the weekly blog and newsletter. Do let me know if there’s something that hasn’t been discussed yet!

Important Dates:
  • School Cross Country this Wednesday 6th August (pm). The boys are very keen, and a few of the girls! Reminders please that EVERYONE has to give it their very best and RUN. Children may wear tracksuits and gymshoes for practise tomorrow (Monday).
  • Parent Meeting for those parent-helpers attending Year 3/4 camp: this Wednesday 6th August, 7-8 pm in Room 4. If anyone else has any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
  • Parent Evening for those children preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation: Thursday evening this week, 7th August, 7 pm at Father Pat’s house. The next four Sundays will be preparation sessions for the children, during 9 am Mass.
  • Friday – 12 noon Mass this week: prayers and songs will be lead by Rooms 3 and 4.
  • School Production – dates to be advised. The songs are sounding great already!

Year 3 & 4 Camp:  Each week I will include snippets of camp information in the newsletter or on the blog for your information. This week: Self-Management Strategies:
Achievement Objectives: Health & Physical Education: Level 2
1. Personal Health and Physical Development:
  • Demonstrate increasing responsibility for self-care and the care of others
  • Identify risks and use safe practices in a range of contexts
2. Relationships With Other People - Interpersonal Skills:
  • Express their needs, ideas, wants, and feelings appropriately and listen sensitively to other people and affirm them.
In the children’s homework clearfiles you will find a ‘Many hands makes light work’ page for Chores and Self-Management tasks. Please discuss the kinds of things your child could do between now and camp to prepare them for the challenge of looking after themselves and their belongings. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ but it will be part of their camp bookwork, and it is due in on August 21st. This week in class we will set up a ‘Checklist for Clothing and Belongings’ required for camp. I would recommend that you start ‘naming’ their gear now (always disliked that job but it is ever so important!)
We will also be talking about managing our feelings, and how we can express ourselves in a healthy way when we are tired or sad. Lot’s to think about! J
Payment: My understanding is that money will be due the week before we go to camp, which would be Tuesday 26th August. Cost is $210.00 per student.
Parent Interviews and Reports:
Thank you to Room 4 parents for attending the Parent interviews, and for your positive feedback. We all seem to agree that Reading and Maths is going very well, and that Writing and Spelling continues to need a BIG PUSH. I will include a small writing task with homework each week this month to keep everyone thinking about full stops, capital letters and developing those ‘wow’ words into bigger and more exciting sentences!

Regards, Markelle Ward.
